Samsung has announced two new Series 7 laptops--the Chronos and Gamer--that are powered by Intel's latest Core-i processors and feature discrete graphics from AMD.
The Samsung Series 7 Chronos offers a display with a thin bezel. This is possible as Samsung claims it has managed to squeeze a 15.6-inch panel into a chassis that's intended for 15-inch laptops. The screen also has a high native resolution of 1,600 x 900 and a brightness of 300 nits.
Bootup and startup speeds have been enhanced, due to the presence of 8GB of flash memory on the motherboard. Samsung states that this laptop will restart in 2 seconds, while a cold boot takes just 19 seconds, which is speedy enough for a laptop with a 750GB HDD.
There are two models available starting from mid-November, a 14-inch version (S$1,688) and a 15.6-inch model (S$1,988). They both come with eight-cell batteries for up to 8 hours uptime

The Series 7 Gamer, as its name suggests, is targeted at the gaming enthusiast. Besides having one of the most powerful mobile graphics chip available now, this laptop features a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, a full-HD 17.3-inch LED display and dual 7,200rpm hard drives. You will also find a Blu-ray drive and even a backlit, full-sized keyboard.
Just like the Chronos, 8GB of cache is present on the motherboard to enhance system and application startup speeds. The screen is also 3D-capable and a pair of active-shutter glasses comes bundled in the package. The Samsung Series 7 Gamer is available now in Singapore at S$2,899.
